Attend the Virtual Public Policy Day to receive updated information about AND and OAND policy efforts. In addition, this webinar will focus on Reimbursement. Getting paid for what you do is important and Karen Stanfar, OAND’s Reimbursement and Coverage Chair, along with a panel of registered dietitian nutritionists, will provide needed information about procedure and diagnosis codes and settings covered by insurance plans.

Speaker Bios

Representative Kristin Boggs represents District 18 in the state of Ohio. Along with her extensive background in public service, policy and legal issues, Boggs has served as a board member for the American Constitution Society since 2010, she volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Franklin County, and she was a working committee member of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association 2013 Leadership Institute.  Boggs represents the 18 House District, which consists of Columbus, Bexley, Grandview Heights and parts of central Franklin County.

Representative Beth Liston represents District 21 in the state of Ohio. Dr. Liston is focused on healthcare, public education, and economic development to ensure strong communities. She is on the following state committees: Behavioral Health and Recovery Supports; Families, Aging and Human Services; Health; and Ways and Means. Dr. Liston is serving her second term in the Ohio House, representing Dublin, Worthington, and Northwest Franklin County.

Jennifer Bier, MS, RD, LD, has been a registered dietitian with The MetroHealth System for fifteen years, managing the outpatient nutrition team for the past nine years. Jennifer completed her master’s degree in Public Health Nutrition and coordinated dietetic internship at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio. She has experience in long-term care, outpatient nutrition counseling, and diabetes education and currently directs the MetroHealth Medical Center Dietetic Internship. Although not a native of Cleveland, she has lived in the area for 20 years now and considers it home.

Jane Korsberg, MS, RDN, LD, FAND, is the Owner/President of Nutrition Reality LLC, private practice and Adjunct Senior Instructor, Department of Nutrition, Case Western Reserve University. She has served on the Boards of Cleveland Dietetic Association (CDA), Flint District Dietetic Association, Ann Arbor Dietetic Association, Michigan Dietetic Association, Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the AADE Choose Your Foods booklet committee, just to name a few. Jane holds a MS in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University. Early in her career she was awarded the ADA's Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award and the CDA's Distinguished Service Award. Jane received the OAND President's Award and Outstanding Dietitian of the Year from the Academy in 2018. Most recently she received the Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award from the combined dietetic internship/master's degree program for the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center Dietetic Internship and CWRU. 

Beth Lawrence, RDN, CDCES, is a proud graduate of the University of Akron with a BS in Dietetics. She has a diverse background in clinical dietetics and wellness. Beth is a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. She is a member of the Ohio and National Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists. Beth works as both an independent contractor for a large physician network and as an employee for an endocrinologist.

Laura Poland RDN, LD, has experience in the dietetics profession for over 25 years and is a graduate of The Ohio State University. Her passion has become working in the preventative health care area, helping individuals achieve optimal health –One Habit At A Time! Laura is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Columbus Dietetic Association, Ohio Nutrition Council and the Nutrition Entrepreneur RDs of Central Ohio. Laura specializes in weight management and has a certificate in training for both Adult as well as Child and Adolescent Weight Management. Laura is also a NETA certified Personal Trainer and enjoys helping her clients achieve a healthy lifestyle - balancing nutrition, exercise and stress.

Karen Stanfar, MPH, RDN, LD, practices privately in Cleveland, Ohio. Her practice area is chronic disease prevention in community settings. She also serves as adjunct faculty for Cuyahoga Community College and Baldwin Wallace University, and as Reimbursement Chair for the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She has an undergraduate degree in Dietetics from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and a graduate degree in Public Health Nutrition from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). She has completed both a general dietetics internship (Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas, Texas) and a public health internship (State of North Carolina). Her experience is broad, ranging from acute to outpatient care, and from pediatrics to seniors. Karen is currently a student in the Doctor of Clinical Nutrition Program at Rutgers University and a nutrition fellow with the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Kay Mavko, MS, RD, LD, has worked as a clinical dietitian, dietitian manager, consultant and past Director of the Ohio Board of Dietetics. Now retired from full-time employment, she is the State Regulatory Specialist for OAND and chairs the Academy’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Licensure.

Natalie Stephens, RDN, LD, is an Assistant Director at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in the Department of Nutrition Services. In this role, she is working to grow the business and promote excellence in the practice of outpatient nutrition therapy while also managing patient foodservice operations in an OSUWMC community hospital. She is active in nutrition policy with OAND’s Public Policy Committee, a former President of the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and former Chair of the AND's Nutrition Services Payment Committee.

Kendra Schmuck, RDN, LD, CDE, is a registered dietitian nutritionist, licensed dietitian who is certified as a diabetes educator. She has completed her certification of training in Adult Weight Management and Childhood and Adolescent Weight Management. She has a Bachelor of Science in dietetics with an emphasis in food service management from Bowling Green State University. She did her dietetic internship through Idaho State University. She has worked as a diabetes educator, outpatient medical nutritional therapist, clinical medical nutrition therapist, and in health promotion. She is currently employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as the Chief of Clinical Dietetics. In her spare time, she is the Public Policy Coordinator for the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Public Policy Chair for the Dayton Dietetic Association.
