Worldwide, cancer is among the leading causes of death, and by 2040, the number of new cancer cases is estimated to be almost 30 million per year. For those diagnosed, malnutrition impacts up to 70% of cancer patients at some point during their cancer journey. Malnourished patients suffer increased toxicities, interruptions in treatment, hospital readmissions, and morbidity and mortality. In addition, malnutrition is related to reduced quality of life and functional status. Although evidence-based guidelines exist and correlate with improved health outcomes, adherence to these recommendations remain poor. And although dietitians are uniquely trained to counsel on these guidelines and address treatment-related nutrition impact symptoms, the ratio of dietitians to cancer patients in the U.S. is a staggering 1 RD to each 2300 patients. Join us for this informative webinar presenting the current state of the evidence and concordance with our national diet and physical activity recommendations.
